Are You Experienced

The Jimi Hendrix Experience (1967)

This guy needs no introduction. He invented, reinvented, and RE-reinvented what could be done with an electric guitar, to the extent that later generations are still mapping out territory he explored. His band was tight too, exemplifying heavy, blues-based “acid rock”, adding in soul and jazz influences, and contributing to psychedelia along the way. By my reckoning, Hendrix’s notoriety and quality in his field surpasses even the famous Eric Clapton’s similar work with Cream. This debut LP contains almost all of Jimi’s biggest hits. You can’t consider yourself “experienced” until you’ve heard it.

Key track: “Purple Haze”
